Deep in the North, far away from the wall, his family had a small keep, with a few animals. Just like the most 'wildlings' they were fabulous survivalists and hunters, living as free individuals underneath nobody's crown, compared to the 'kneelers' behind the wall. Ragnar was the oldest child of a warrior and his spearwife. He was taught how to fight, hunt and survive in the wilderness from his early age on. Just a couple of years younger than him was his sister Ygritte, who would develop into a beautiful ginger within the next years. Sadly, their father wouldn't be a part of their future. He died of deep injuries caused by a bear attack, as Ygritte was still a small girl. Once the family burned the corpse of the warrior, so their father wouldn't return as wight, Ragnar became the head of the family and had to promise his mother, that he would always protect his younger sister. As if it was meant to be, his mother died soon after his father, murdered by men of the Night's Watch. From there on, it was just the two of them. At least for a small period of time. ▸Mance Rayder Rumours spread all over within the North about a man of the Night's Watch, who had turned his back on the South and tried to unite the tribes of the free folk. Eventually, this man stumbled upon the siblings, who had turned into nomads after their mother's death. Ragnar was around the age of thirteen as he met Mance Rayder for the first time; Confused and disoriented, he wandered around with his sister in hopes of finding something to eat for them. Mance saved them and admitted the siblings to his place. They stayed with him and Ragnar became something like a foster-son to Mance. The years passed by and with them Mance united more and more tribes of the free folk. He became king and sorts of Ragnar became the prince. His sister had grown into a beautiful and skilled spearwife, like their mother had been one and she didn't listen to her older brother anymore, but after all he still protected her, at least he tried. Whenever he gazed at her, he saw their mother and the painful memories of her death shot back into his mind. He had learned to hate the Night's Watch and everything they stood for, and after all those years he still wanted revenge for his loss. ▸Jon Snow If it would have been up to him, he would have killed Jon Snow immediately as he met him for the first time; the raven haired was a man of the Night's Watch and he had laid an eye on his sister. But Mance was the one in order and Ragnar was loyal to him, so he respected his decision on allowing the crow to live. Through, Ragnar never left him out of his eyes, because of his sister. He had promised to protect her. Things changed between Ragnar and Jon, as he understood that his sister chose to be with him and as Ragnar noticed what the crow was doing for the free folk. After Jon's act of compassion as it came to Mance's death, the 'kneeler' had earned his trust to the fullest. Together with Tormund he convinced the free folk to trust Jon and under Ragnar's reign, as successor of Mance, he united the tribes once again in Hardhome. He fought side by side with Jon against the white walkers and together they saved the free folk by shipping Ragnar's people to the land of the 'kneelers'. The wilding and the crow developed something like a friendship and fought side by side as the white walkers came once again, this time across the wall to Winterfell. ▸the future After their success and after the ending of the winter, the free folk split up once again. Tormund returned into the North with some of their people, others remained in the 'South' ( the Kingdom of the North ) just like Ragnar did, to form a permanent bond with the Northern Kingdom; after all he was still the king of the free folk and he wanted peace between the neighboring 'kingdoms'. |
